In our setting, the adults observe and wait for a moment in which they feel they can make a difference. They interact to teach the next steps appropriate to the individual child. Each time the adults interact with a child, they are observing, assessing, planning for and responding to that individual child. The interactions are the most important and powerful teaching moments.
We are proud of the learning environment we have created. The children can choose to play inside or outside, with classroom doors remaining open. From day one, the children are supported to explore the environment to see what is available, to select the resources they would like, to use them appropriately and to tidy the area when they have finished. The timetable has been designed to give the children the maximum amount of ‘free flow’ time and our staff are always there to support the children in their activities.
Physical Activity
Being physically active is important at any age, but particularly so between the ages of 3 and 5, as this not only supports health and well being but is important for brain development too. Physical activity is as important for a child's education and development as literacy and numeracy! Activity can be spread throughout the day to avoid long periods of being sedentary, with at least one hour being vigorous enough to make them out of breath. In line with recommendations from the Chief medical officer of 180 minutes (3 hours) of activity every day, Marlbrook Nursery offers lots of opportunity to be active both inside and out, to help towards this goal. Please see the link below for ways that you can also contribute to achieve this target, as well as some tips for healthier eating choices.
