Food for Life

Marlbrook is working towards achieving the Bronze Food for Life Partnership award and part of this involves groups of children from across the school being actively involved in transforming food culture. It aims to reconnect children with where their food comes from and inspire children and families to grow and cook food.

Our new school gardening and cooking club is well underway, run by Mr Griffiths during the school on Wednesday afternoons. During this time the children will have a chance to either plant, maintain or harvest our school allotment. In addition, each week the group cooks something tasty which builds upon Focus on Food cooking skills.

Recipes will be added below. Go on... have a go at home!

To celebrate the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth ll's historic 2012 Diamond Jubilee, the Woodland Trust is helping millions of people across the UK to come together to plant 6 million trees.

With HRH The Princess Royal as Patron, the Jubilee Woods project aims to create hundreds of Jubilee Woods and 60 special Diamond Woods, transforming our landscape in a generation and providing a lasting and meaningful tribute for many years to come.

We  at Marlbrook, are taking the opportunity to mark this special moment in history in a way that will stay with us forever.  We have been given a free tree pack, which contains 20 of each Birch, Rowan and Cherry, plus a Royal Oak sapling together with our newly planted fruit orchard.

Marlbrook School's Jubilee Wood will appear in the new Royal Record, a book which records all the trees planted in 2012. There will only ever be two copies produced, one for Buckingham Palace and the other for the British Library.

To view our entry online, log into www.jubileewoods.org.uk and view the online map and record.

Many thanks to Nursery Direct for their generous donation of a Fiesta Apple tree. We bought apple, pear, cherry, plum and damson trees. We look forward to picking the fruit next autumn.
