Welcome to Reception at Marlbrook Primay School!

Miss Jones is our class teacher and we also have Mrs Pritchard, who is the wonderful class teaching assistant. .

This term we are focusing on settling in to the routine of the school, getting to know the other children and explore the large spaces here. Whatever the weather, we love exploring outside as we have fantastic provision, such as the mud kitchen and the giant sand pit. So it is important I always have the right clothing in school.

To begin our learning we have started practising writing our names, forming all the letters correctly. We now also have reading books in our book bags which we are extremely enthusiastic about, a big thank you to our grownups who are reading with us at home, it really helps extend our learning.

We have begun our phonics sessions, which we have focused on our listening and attention skills, playing lots of games that concentrate on instrumental and environmental sounds and rhyme and alliteration. We have now progressed onto learning the first set of sounds (satpin) from Letters and Sounds, the scheme we follow. We have enjoyed learning these sounds to build new words through segmenting and blending with Metal Mike on our journey to learning to read and write.

We have played lots of Maths games that help us learn to count to 10 accurately, and learn the number names. We loved doing number hunts in the class. Although, best of all, we have enjoyed singing lots of number songs, such as 5 Currant Buns and 10 Green Bottles.

We always try our best to become independent; taking care of our belongings, whilst becoming enthusiastic and inquisitive learners to ensure we try lots of new things and take challenges in our environment.

We have a fantastic opportunity to develop our physical activity on a Wednesday by having a PE session in the morning and discovering more of the outdoors in our Forest School during the afternoon. Look out for a letter with more information!

If you have any questions or queries please feel free to speak to a member of staff before or after school.
