Hello and welcome to 5P!
Our teacher is Miss Penson and we are lucky enough to be supported by Mrs Westwood. We will also have our student teacher, Miss Fox with us throughout the year!
The children have returned from their Christmas break keen and refreshed. We have exciting topics coming up in the Spring term of Year 5!
ENGLISH – In English, we will be focussing on story writing (taking inspiration from Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo). After half term, we will then begin working on explanation texts based on our science work.
MATHS - In Maths our focus will be primarily on number. We will be encouraging the children to learn their tables thoroughly, so please do help test them at home.
TOPIC – Our focus for this term will be The Vikings. Amongst other things, we will learn about a day in the life of a Viking, the religious beliefs of a Viking and Viking travel. In DT lessons, we will design and create a Viking long boat.
P.E. – 5P will be going to the Academy on Wednesday afternoons for PE lessons. This should be a valuable experience for the children as they will learn and apply new skills to sport!
SWIMMING – This term is Year Five’s turn to go swimming. This will take place on a Friday afternoon. Children will need their swimming kits including towels and swimming hats in school every Friday.
SCIENCE – Living things including life cycles, plants and humans.
If you have any concerns or queries please come in and speak to us. The mornings can sometimes be a very busy time and it might not always be possible to discuss things but we are happy to see you after school. Wednesdays are best avoided as we have staff meetings.
