Autumn Term in 3BP

Welcome to 3BP's class page!

Firstly, we hope you all had a great summer break. Mrs Powell will be teaching the class on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays and Mrs Benjamin will be teaching the class on alternate Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Miss Smith will be our TA.

We have many exciting activities planned for this year and have outlined what we are doing this term.

English- We will be focusing on narrative writing, taking lots of inspiration from the book The Stone Age Boy.

Maths- We will be focusing primarily on number. We will be encouraging children to learn their times tables so please practice these at home to. There are lots of fun interactive online games that the children can use to practice.

Topic-Our focus this term will be The Stone Age. Amongst other things, we will be learning about the day in the life of a Stone Age man, the discovery of iron and bronze and what life was like in a Stone Age village. In Creative Art, we will be model making, creating large stone age art works and also tackle fossil drawings.

Outdoor PE will be on a Tuesday.  Children should have their P.E kit in school all week as we often have opportunities throughout the year to take part in physical activities. This should be a white or blue polo shirt or T-shirt, a pair of black or navy shorts and pumps. They do get an outside session of P.E once a week and can bring trainers and jogging bottoms.  This would be especially useful in the colder weather. All PE kit must be named so that any ‘stray’ clothing can be easily identified.

We are swimming on Fridays. So please send in kits every week. Googles may be worn and swimming hats needed for girls or boys with long hair.

Reading continues to be a very high priority in Year 3 and we would urge you to hear your child read as often as possible.  As well as encouraging your child to become a fluent and expressive reader, talking about what they have read and asking your child questions about their books will also help them to understand.  We will continue to hear your child read in school regularly.

Your child will receive homework and some spellings and times tables each week to learn.  Spellings will be sent home on a Thursday and your child will be tested on the following Thursday- we will also be working through the week on these spellings.  If your child is absent on the day new spellings are given, please remind them that they need to collect a copy on their return.  A few minutes a night spent on these really helps children maintain information for longer.

The children are now in Key Stage 2, as they are now maturing we ask you to help them gain independence and let them come into the class independently to organise their books for the day ahead. We hope that your child enjoys their experience in Year 3. Please feel welcome to discuss your child or any concerns or queries you may have throughout the year.
