Summer Term in 3BP
Welcome to 3BP's class page!
Firstly, we hope you all had a great Easter break. Just a reminder that Mrs Powell will be teaching the class on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays and Mrs Benjamin will be teaching the class on alternate Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Miss Smith is our TA.
We have many exciting activities planned for this term and have outlined what we are doing this term.
English- We will be focusing on narrative and report writing, taking lots of inspiration from the book The Worst Children by David Walliams.
Maths- We will continue to focus primarily on number. We will be encouraging children to learn their times tables so please practice these at home to. There are lots of fun interactive online games that the children can use to practice.
Topic-Our focus this term will continue to be The Romans and also local geography and history. Amongst other things, we will be learning about who Boudicca was, map making and how Hereford has changed. In Creative Art, we will be catapult making, creating papier machie bowls and using clay.
Our indoor PR session will be on Wednesday. Outdoor PE will be on a Thursday-rounders and athletics. Children should have their P.E kit in school all week as we often have opportunities throughout the year to take part in physical activities. This should be a white or blue polo shirt or T-shirt, a pair of black or navy shorts and pumps. They do get an outside session of P.E once a week and can bring trainers and jogging bottoms. This would be especially useful in the colder weather. All PE kit must be named so that any ‘stray’ clothing can be easily identified.
Reading continues to be a very high priority in Year 3 and we would urge you to hear your child read as often as possible. As well as encouraging your child to become a fluent and expressive reader, talking about what they have read and asking your child questions about their books will also help them to understand. We will continue to hear your child read in school regularly.
Your child will receive homework and some spellings and times tables each week to learn. Spellings will be sent home on a Thursday and your child will be tested on the following Thursday- we will also be working through the week on these spellings. If your child is absent on the day new spellings are given, please remind them that they need to collect a copy on their return. A few minutes a night spent on these really helps children maintain information for longer.
We also have an exciting trip planned in May and another local one in July!
We hope that your child continues to enjoy their experience in Year 3. Please feel welcome to discuss your child or any concerns or queries you may have throughout the year.
