Summer Term in 3HP

Welcome to 3HP's class page!

It has been a great start to the Summer Term. On our first day back we had a drama company, Open Sky Productions, deliver a performance and workshop. It was fabulous and the children loved it. You can see photos of the Workshop above.

Throughout this term the children will continue to examine the Romans and their lives. Last term 3HP had a great class assembly where they explored Roman food, culture and their battles with the Celts. You can still see the gallery of images on our trip to the Museum Resource centre last term where we furthered our knowledge of the Stone Age.

This term the children will look at Roman food and the differences between our food today. This will hopefully involve a trip to the Farm to Fork workshops held by Tescos where children will be making and trying a variety of foods. For our English work the children will continue to read ‘The Firework Makers Daughter’ by Phillip Pullman. This will nicely lead onto our Geography work of exploring volcanoes, this will be a messy day with real volcanic eruptions occurring! The children will continue to explore timelines to understand the chronology of the historic period. For Maths we will continue to focus on problem solving using the 4 operations of addition, multiplication, subtraction and division. Science is exploring the life processes of growth, ask your children to explain ‘Mrs Gren’ to you!  Children will be encouraged to take an active role in their learning by experiencing a wide variety of activities which will enthuse, challenge and encourage them to become independent learners. This term we plan to visit Caerleon to explore more Roman artefacts.

Reading continues to be a very high priority in Year 3 and we would urge you to hear your child read as often as possible.  As well as encouraging your child to become a fluent and expressive reader, talking about what they have read and asking your child questions about their books will also help them to understand.  We will continue to hear your child read in school regularly.
Your child will receive homework and some spellings and times tables each week to learn.  Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and your child will be tested on the following Friday - we will also be working through the week on these spellings.  If your child is absent on the day new spellings are given, please remind them that they need to collect a copy on their return.  A few minutes a night spent on these really helps children maintain information for longer.
P.E takes place twice a week.
3HP have P.E on Tuesday (outdoor) and Wednesday (outdoor).
Children should have their P.E kit in school all week as we often have opportunities throughout the year to take part in physical activities. This should be a white or blue polo shirt or T-shirt, a pair of black or navy shorts and pumps. They do get an outside session of P.E once a week and can bring trainers and jogging bottoms.  This would be especially useful in the colder weather. All PE kit must be named so that any ‘stray’ clothing can be easily identified.

We hope that your child enjoys their experience in Year 3. Please feel welcome to discuss your child or any concerns or queries you may have throughout the year.
The children are now in Key Stage 2, as they are now maturing we ask you to help them gain independence and let them come into the class independently to organise their books for the day ahead.
