Spring Term

At Christmas we said a sad goodbye to Mrs Lloydcry, but an excited hello to Mrs Rosserlaughing who now teaches us on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We have been doing lots of lovely learning in 1LD. We are all working hard to become Maths wizards and are carrying on getting better and better at our writing. We have been reading Traditional Tales such as The Little Red Hen, Chicken Licken and The Tree Little Pigs and have had great fun doing all sorts of role play, story telling and  different activities linked to these activities. We have been learning all about adjectives and how to use the to make our writing more interesting.

In science we have found out some  some super new words too, such as 'opaque' and 'transparent' , to talk about materials . We have been doing all kinds of investigations to find out about the properties of wood, plastic metal etc

We are also looking at the different materials toys in the past were made from in our History lessons. We had a very exciting visit from the Hereford Museum who brought their artefacts to look at. We had a fabulous morning finding out about how toys in the past have changed over  time.

In P.E we are developing our skills with racquet and balls- look out for us at future Wimbledons! Whilst on the ICT front we have been familiarising ourselves with the Ipads.

There are lots more exiting things in the pipeline this term, from finding out about healthy lifestyles and running our own breakfast café, to learning about Christian traditions such as baptisms in R.E , as well as performing in our class assembly. It is always such busy fun in 1LD!

Summer Term

We have returned to school following the Easter Holidays refreshed and ready for our last term in Year One. During the Spring term we held our Breakfast cafe. Our families joined us for a healthy breakfast and we took the orders and served them (with no spillages!)   During this event we  collected donations for the Indian Dalit children that we enable to attend school.

We also had our class assembly where we celebrated Mother's Day and shared what our Mums mean to us.

During this term we have loads to look forward to! In English we are going to be exploring fantasy stories and writing recounts; we will be making our writing interesting using adjectives, extending our sentences using conjunctions and we are all trying to improve our hand writing.

In maths we will be continuing to work hard to achieve five maths targets in order to get our maths wizard badges (some of us are nearly there!) We will be carrying on with the number, shape, space and measure concepts that we have been learning and we are hoping to become maths masters!

In science we will be learning about plants and growth and our geography work will be about our local area.

We are very lucky to be having weekly P.E. lessons with First Steps Footie to improve our ball skills and weekly dance lessons with Nic Roderick. Strictly-here we come! This term we also have Sports day to look forward to.

In other subjects we also have lots of exciting learning to look forward to, our R.E. lessons will explore the question 'Who are Christians and what do they believe?' History lessons will be about Famous People and we will be doing sculpture in art. After half term we will will be doing sensational salads in design and technology (yummy!) Our PSHE lessons will cover living in the wider world, relationships and of course transition in to year two.

We are going to be busy!
