Autumn Term
Welcome to Class 1TD's web page! This class is very lucky because we have not just one teacher, but two!
Mrs Turpin works on Monday and Tuesday, and Mrs Douthwaite works on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
We also have Mrs Simpson our lovely Teaching Assistant and a student teacher Mrs Roberts.  We all work very hard, but we have lots of fun.

During the first half of the Autumn term we will be
looking at  'Animals including humans' in Science, with a range of interesting activities on the senses. We will also be  learning about the seasons, using our lovely school grounds to observe the changes taking place as we move from Autumn to Winter.

We have been doing lots of pencil play and mark making to help us with drawing self -portraits in our Art lessons.
and are looking at different places, weather, landscapes and journeys with Barnaby Bear in Geography whilst learning about the countries of the UK.
In R.E we are thinking  'Belonging' , whilst in P.E we’ve been developing our balancing and agility

In English we are  working  hard on our handwriting, focusing on 'curly caterpillar letters' (c,o,d,g,e,s,q) and making sure we start and finish them all in the correct place. We will soon be  moving on to the one armed robot letters( r,n,m,b,p) We are doing lots of phonic games and activities, and getting better and better at blending words for reading and segmenting them for spelling. All of this helps our writing, which is coming on a treat! During this term we will be  looking at both fiction and non fiction styles of writing and producing stories, poems, labels, lists , captions and instructions. We love being authors!

In Maths we continue  working on our number formation, as well as enjoying practical work with things like  numicon, cubes, bead strings and number fans to help us with counting higher numbers, partitioning into tens and units, and adding and subtracting numbers. We are starting to remember our number bonds to 10, 20 and even 100 and are enjoying counting in steps of 2,5 and 10. We are also doing geometry work , talking about and working with 2D and 3D shapes.

In addition to all this we have had lots of
fun working on the laptops, painting, building, cutting, using playdough, visiting the library.... and generally being very, very busy !

We hope you will keep busy at home too-reading together as often as possible and helping your child to reach their numeracy targets of recognising and writing numbers to 10, then 20 , then beyond 20!If you have any queries please do drop in to see us and we will do our best to help.
